Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to First Grade! I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing summer. My name is Mrs.Louis, formerly known as Ms.Mitchell, and I will be your child's first grade teacher. This will be my fourth year at Vanderpoel and I am extremely excited! I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and completed my Master’s degree in early childhood education at DePaul University.
First graders have the best traits that students can possess: curiosity, enthusiasm, and humor. They are so excited to learn and to discover new things! First grade is a very important year as your child will be making the transition from learning to read towards reading to learn. We will also be working on maturing as writers as well as becoming mathematicians and scientists. I can already tell that this school year is going to be filled with enthusiasm and lots of learning!
If you have any questions or concerns during the first few days of school, please do not hesitate to send a note with your child, email, text, or call me at any time. I too will be incorporating class DOJO in order to have prompt and clear communication. I will be sending home a packet explaining my teaching philosophy, classroom expectations, and procedures. Please make sure to review the procedures and discuss them with your child.
I have been in contact and collaborating with Ms.Ingram about her amazing kindergarten class from last year. I’m excited for the opportunity to get to know your child, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive school year. With your cooperation and support, I know that we can make this the best year yet for your child!
